Essay 3

Why Fly?
1-Do you consider the title of this essay appropriate
or inappropriate? Explain.
I consider the title completly appropiate since it goes on to explain the benefits of airplane travel to the people that maight be opposed to it.
2-How does the introduction prepare the reader for a
persuasive essay?
It sets the premise of the whole essay with  a simple fact that anyone can understand.
3-At what point did you first realize what the writer’s
position was?
The point at witch I realized his stance on the argument was when he noted that air travel had the best combination of convenience, speed, and safety.
4-What is the thesis statement? What, if any, are the
subtopics?
The thesis statement is "Yet in spite of complaints and some travelers' deepseated fears of flying, air transport continues to offer a combination of convenience, speed, and safety unmatched by any other means of transportation. The subtopic that it touches on are the landling of luggage, delays of flights and the chances of airplane accidents (crash).
5-What are the major arguments offered in support
of the thesis statement? What supporting
information is provided for each of these
arguments?
The first mayor arguments is on the point of baggage being mishandled where he states that  the luggage handling policies of airports is actually the best of the industry and even in the situation were they are delayed the airport even offers to have it delivered to you.
The second argument is about the delayed or cancelled flights, were he states that these are actually really infrequent and even when they do have are only delayed by a few around. He goes on to say even with these setbacks it still cuts down the travel time in fractions.
6-Where does the writer mention opposing
arguments? Which points, if any, are actually
conceded?
The only point that presents as a counter argument is the fear of flying do to the attention given to airplane crashes. He does not concede this point as he says its much less likely to happen then a car crash for example.
7-What additional arguments for or against the
controversial main point can you think of?
The only point I could think of is against that even with the fact that airplanes have the "best" safety records that the mortality rates never actually diminish cause of the increase capacity of planes. This leading to the fact that one airplane crash leads to a lot higher lost of life.
8- What is the arrangement of subtopics in the body?
The arrangement goes from the convenience of luggage handling to drastically reduce travel time and ending with the fear of flying.
